Marks, left to right: reads your handwritten pages · compares with real topper answers · model answer in topper style · draws a diagram for the answer · marks by dimension · no score without a reference.
writeupsc is the only 6 of 6. Upload an answer and see it work.
Why these six
Reads your handwritten pages. Marks are given on handwritten sheets. A tool that needs typed text is checking something you will never submit.
Compares with real topper answers. A rubric is a checklist. A real topper answer is one that actually got marks. Only a comparison with real answers can show you what a scoring answer to this question contained.
Model answer in topper style. A model answer is only useful if it looks like what scores: the headings, the examples, the boxed terms, the closing line. writeupsc builds its model answer from the retrieved topper answers and the way real toppers write on the page.
Draws a diagram. About a quarter of GS topper answers carry a diagram. If the question wants one, the model answer should show you one.
Marks by dimension. One overall number tells you nothing about what to fix. Separate marks for structure, dimensions, arguments, examples, diagrams and conclusion do.
No score without a reference. An AI that always produces a number will produce one even when it has nothing to compare against. A refusal is more useful than a confident guess.
What the other tools say about themselves
From each tool’s own page: the six marks as read on 21 September 2026, free tiers and prices as read on 18 October 2026. Prices and free limits change often; check the tool before you pay.
- AI Mentor: Upload handwritten answer sheets as a PDF or image; it says your answer is “placed side-by-side against real UPSC toppers’ scripts” within 3 minutes and that “a full model answer” is generated for every question. Its public page is a JavaScript app; a diagram section appears only in the report screen of its app code, not in its marketing copy. Free: First three evaluations free, no card. Paid: Monthly ₹599 (listed ₹699) for 250 credits, 30 days; quarterly ₹1,699 (₹2,099) for 750 credits; yearly ₹4,999 (₹7,188) for 2,400 credits. In its app one answer costs 1 credit and an Essay 3. Prices include 18% GST; auto-renewal may apply; its refund text is mixed (7-day requests in one place, “generally non-refundable” in another).
- UPSC AI: A fixed 50-30-10-10 rubric; gap analysis against one AIR 23 copy; topper model answers; claims 98% rubric correlation. Free: 1 Mains evaluation a month on its pricing page, no payment details; another of its pages says 2 free uploads. Paid: Basic ₹699 a month (10 Mains evaluations, plus AI queries and MCQs); Pro ₹1,199 a month (50 evaluations, mentor support). Renews automatically; 7-day refund. Its evaluation page also offers packs from ₹299 for 10 evaluations.
- UPSC Answer Check: Writes a rubric for your question, marks content, structure, analysis and language, returns a model answer. Free: 5 Mains evaluations a month with an account (Google), no card; any paper, English or Hindi, with model answers. Paid: ₹299 a month or ₹2,999 a year, unlimited Mains evaluations. No auto-renewal; 7-day money-back.
- SuperKalam: Relevance, structure, facts and examples, depth; handwritten answers accepted. Free: Up to 3 Mains copies a month. Paid: Part of its full preparation subscription, not sold separately: ₹1,199 a month, ₹5,499 for 6 months or ₹7,499 for access until Mains 2027. No refunds on paid plans.
- Dharoha: Type or upload a photo or PDF of your answer for an objective score out of 10 and a grade, paragraph-level feedback and a full model answer. It says its AI is “trained on UPSC marking patterns and topper answer copies from Ranks 1-100 (2018-2024)”; it does not say it compares your answer with them. Free: First evaluation free; its dashboard shows 1 free evaluation a day that resets at midnight. Paid: Pay as you go, no subscription, credits never expire: ₹10 for 1 evaluation, ₹50 for 6, ₹100 for 13, ₹150 for 20. All its notes and practice are free; only evaluation is paid.
- MedhaviAI: Upload a photo of your handwritten GS or Essay answer, or paste text, and get a score on 6 dimensions (introduction, content coverage, keywords, structure, conclusion, word count) with a model answer and examiner-style feedback in 15 to 30 seconds. Its “benchmark comparison” compares your score with other aspirants, not with topper answers. Free: 3 free credits to start; 1 credit is one answer evaluated on all 6 dimensions. Paid: Single ₹60 for 1 credit; Monthly ₹299 for 20 credits; Quarterly ₹899 for 70 credits (valid 90 days, no rollover). No cash refunds for unused credits; credits for a technical failure are refunded.
- Likhit: Scores introduction, content, structure and conclusion against a rubric; gives rewrite suggestions. Free: 3 evaluations a month, answers up to 250 words, no card: the score with a four-part breakdown, no margin notes. Paid: Pro ₹299 a month (fair use, answers up to 1,000 words, line-level margin notes, rewrite suggestions), renews automatically; or a one-off 30-day Pro Pass for ₹299. 7-day money-back on the first payment.
- ExamDay (formerly Dalvoy): Formerly Dalvoy (dalvoy.com now redirects to examday.ai). Trained on model answers, topper copies and examiner feedback patterns; gives access to model answers. Free: 2 Mains evaluations a day. Paid: Quarterly ₹499, half-yearly ₹799 or yearly ₹999; Premium allows 40 evaluations a day.
- PrepAiro: Upload a photo for a score range with a percentile, split into structure, content and improvement suggestions, with a model answer. Free: No free evaluations stated; the free plan has 50 MCQs a day and current affairs. Paid: ₹999 a month, ₹3,999 a year (valid till August 2027) or ₹7,999 (valid till August 2028), each including Mains evaluation. Renews automatically unless cancelled; all purchases non-refundable.
- Ease My Prep: Returns an annotated copy with margin marks and scores on seven dimensions (demand, content, structure, data, multidimensionality, presentation, conclusion), with model pointers rather than a full model answer. Free: 2 AI answer checks, free for ever, no card; and a one-time 24-hour Pro trial. Paid: A ₹49 trial copy (up to 20 answers, once per account); credit packs from ₹99; Pro ₹5,999 till Mains 2027 with unlimited evaluation under fair use. Refund within 7 days if under 20% of the course is used; credits are non-refundable.
- Rank Sheet: A library of real topper copies with an evaluator added. It says to upload your handwritten Mains copy for “question-by-question, examiner-style feedback benchmarked directly against real topper scripts”, matched “on the same question”. Model answers and diagrams are not mentioned on the evaluator page. Free: 1 question, one-time, no payment; its evaluator page also says “Launch week - 5 free full evaluations a day”. Paid: Its pages disagree. The home page lists Plus ₹49 and Pro ₹99 for 30 days (“Reverts to ₹199 soon”), with photo and PDF upload on Pro. The evaluator page lists Monthly ₹199 and ₹299 together for 30 days and Yearly ₹2,500. Refund terms not stated.
- Manual test-series checking: A copy comes back in days to weeks with a total mark and a few remarks in the margin. It is marked against the institute’s answer key, not real topper answers, and different checkers give different marks.
- AnswerWriting.com: Says it compares with successful responses from previous toppers, with no details; claims a +23% score boost. Free: 3 answer or essay evaluations, once (lifetime). Paid: ₹499 a month, ₹1,199 a quarter, ₹1,999 a half-year or ₹2,999 a year, all with unlimited evaluations; 3-day refund.
- Acme AI: Evaluates against UPSC marking patterns; a separate model-answer generator; claims 99% accuracy. Free: 20 free credits (one credit is one page), no card. Paid: ₹599 a month for 400 credits, ₹1,199 a quarter for 1,000 credits, or ₹4,499 for 4,000 credits plus tests until August 2027; a UPSC 2028 plan is ₹8,999 for 8,000 credits until August 2028. Mentorship plans sold separately.
- Prayas AI: Content, structure and clarity; claims unmatched accuracy with no figure. Free: Not stated on its pages today. Paid: Its pricing page says new subscriptions are unavailable.
- CollectorBabu: Instant AI evaluation of handwritten answers, or a full PDF reviewed by experts within 24 hours. It publishes no marking criteria. Free: Not stated: its pages say “Start for free” with no number, and offer a free 30-minute mentorship session. Paid: Zenith Mentorship + Evaluation ₹39,999 (GS and Essay) or ₹44,999 (with Optional), valid till the next Mains, with unlimited GS and Essay evaluation in 24 hours. All sales final, no refunds.
- Vaidra: Part of a wider UPSC preparation platform. Its pages say the AI Mains Evaluator gives feedback in under 60 seconds with “examiner-style comments, detailed suggestions, and scoring”, based on “UPSC marking patterns”. The evaluator itself sits behind a sign-in, so its output was not read. Topper answers are not mentioned. Free: Free Explorer plan: 2 Mains answer evaluations a day and 5 UPSC GPT queries a day. Paid: Achiever ₹399 a month or ₹4,199 a year (unlimited Mains evaluations); Champion ₹999 a month or ₹10,000 a year (adds analytics, study plans, mentorship features). 7-day money-back on paid plans; cancel any time.
- PadhAI: Write and submit a GS, Ethics or Essay answer for feedback on structure and content in under a minute. “Topper level” is its slogan; it does not say it compares with topper answers. Free: No free evaluations stated; its daily news and quiz battles are free. Paid: Pro ₹349 a month (listed down from ₹400) with unlimited evaluations. Renews automatically; no refunds for partly used periods.
- Convert IAS: Rank holders and interview-appeared mentors evaluate your uploaded answers: up to 5 questions or 1 essay in 24 working hours, a full-length test in 5 to 7 days, and it says no deadline can be guaranteed. Free: 2 answers evaluated free. Paid: One month ₹2,299 (60 GS questions and 4 essays); Mains 2027 ₹11,999 with unlimited GS and Essay evaluation; Mains 2028 ₹19,999; optional combos cost more. All purchases non-refundable.
Questions
Which AI tool is best for UPSC Mains answer evaluation?
If you want your handwritten answer compared with real topper answers to the closest questions, a model answer written in topper style beside yours, a diagram when the question needs one, and marks by dimension, writeupsc is built for exactly that. It is the only tool in this table whose page states all six. Other tools score against a fixed rubric; some also return a model answer.
Are the accuracy figures these tools publish reliable?
Treat them as marketing. UPSC does not publish marked copies, so there is nothing to check a figure like “98% correlation” or “99% accuracy” against. writeupsc publishes no accuracy number for that reason.
What is the difference between a rubric-based evaluator and a reference-based one?
A rubric-based tool scores your answer against a fixed checklist (introduction, content, structure, conclusion). A reference-based tool finds real answers that scored on similar questions, then builds its model answer and its feedback from what those answers contain. The first shows you a checklist. The second shows you what your own answer is missing against answers that actually got marks. writeupsc is reference-based.
Do these tools read handwriting or do I have to type?
18 of the 20 options in the table say on their page that they accept a photo or PDF of the handwritten sheet. writeupsc reads photos only, on purpose. In the exam, marks are given on handwritten sheets.

Photograph the sheet the way you wrote it. 1 free evaluation with a Google account, no card.
