How long the answers are

Essays in the bank run to the full 1,000 to 1,200 words UPSC allows. Most of them follow the same shape. They open with a short story or a scene. Then come two to four sections with their own headings. Each section looks at the topic from a different level (person, society, country, world) or a different angle (history, economy, ethics). The conclusion comes back to the opening story.

How a topper approached it

For each answer, the bank notes how it was built. Two examples:

Opens with the story of Siddhartha Gautama leaving his palace to argue that a person's true character shows only under distress, then states this as the essay's thesis before running through a chain of paired examples: a cricket quote and Virat Kohli's comeback, Raja Ram Mohan Roy's fight against Sati, post-war multilateral institutions and India's vaccine diplomacy during COVID-19, and the developed world's climate responsibility, each closed with a one-line reflection tying it back to the theme. Leans on quotations throughout (the ship in harbour, Socrates, Robert Frost, Mill) and a science analogy of carbon becoming diamond under pressure to restate the same point in different registers. Closes by looping back through the opening examples in a rhetorical "had... not..." sequence before ending on the Mill quote about a dissatisfied Socrates.

How the bank describes Shakti Dubey’s (AIR 1, 2024) answer to: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

Opens with a personal anecdote, Riya littering on a family trek because a few packets seemed harmless, and draws the drop-and-flood analogy explicit before stating the thesis. The body then alternates between negative and positive chains of examples: criminal politicians and plastic pollution and an AI warning as drops adding to a flood of harm, set against Gandhi, B.M. Malabari, tree plantation, and the raising of a single child as drops adding to a flood of good. Returns to the water metaphor with a Hindi proverb, then widens the argument with a natural-science analogy, earthquakes and volcanoes built up from pressure over years, before closing on a quoted environmental warning about the last tree, the last fish, and the last river.
